Here are a few words I'd like to say good bye to in 2008. Please feel free to add words that you are sick of using, reading and hearing. This list is by no means based on any formal survey but merely my opinion, observations and short fuse:

Unique-
For once and all can we get rid of this word? Poof! Don't tell me your product, service or company is unique. That's not good enough. Everyone is unique or nobody is. Describe succinctly why you are "unique." This word drives me crazy.

Bailout-
Enough said.

Moniker-
Why not say "name" or "nickname?" I"ve noticed a steady increase of this word over the past few years and I think it's time to go back to the basics. Call it what it is, a name.

Can't -
This word should simply not exist. Period.

Wassup-
When I call you, please don't greet me with this word. This type of greeting sets the tone for your approach to service, respect and overall common courtesy. I hope I do not sound too old school but I figure a warm, personal greeting is one of the easiest things to do as a human being.

Offline-
As in, "Let's take this discussion offline and talk about it outside of the meeting." Usage of this word has been grating on my nerves quite some time. For whatever reason the person saying it seems to be in control of the conversation's direction and the other person is in trouble.

Ubiquitous-
Ubiquitous is ubiquitous. Let's retire the word and bring it back after a few years. Like Britney, it, too, can make a comeback.

Monetize-
I'm going to nip this one right in the bud. The word is gathering speed in frequency of usage. This concerns me as I don't have an issue with the word itself but I'd like to see it stick around awhile. With this one, let's be proactive in our approach and give it a rest in 2009.
We can revisit it in 2010. Rest well "monetize!"

Vetted-
Another word that increased with frequency this past year due to the election. Again, it's a word I like so maybe we don't retire it but do use it sparingly. On second thought, maybe we didn't use it enough or do it enough given the amount of scandals this year.

I hope you find this blog unique and that this content is not ubiquitous. While I am not trying to monetize my blog, I would like to present interesting content under my moniker. It's not that I can't present good content but sometimes when I hear "Wassup?" it distracts me and I might find myself needing a bailout. Perhaps I haven't been vetted properly.

Word out.
